How do I password-protect my AI-built site?

Claim your site, then type a password under Update in Password (optional) and press Save, or ask your AI to set it. Visitors type the password before the site opens, on the free link and on your own domain. Leave the field empty and save to make the site public again. It does not cost anything.

Your AI can publish. It can never spend your money.

Lock your site in 4 steps

  1. Claim your site. A password works on a claimed site. If you just dropped the folder, claim it on the same screen, or open your claim link.
  2. Open Update. Sign in on dropthehassle.com and press Update website on your site.
  3. Type a password. Put it in Password (optional) and press Save. From now on, visitors see a password screen first.
  4. Share the link and the password. Send both to the people who should see the site. Anyone without the password stays on the password screen.

Or ask your AI

If your AI is connected to DropTheHassle with your account token, say: Lock my site with a password until I'm ready. It asks you which password to use, then sets it with set_site_password. To open the site to everyone again, say Remove the password from my site. It calls clear_site_password. Neither one costs anything. Set-up per tool is in the MCP guide.

What visitors see

A short password screen before anything else on the site. After the right password, the site opens as usual. It works the same on yourname.dropthehassle.app and on your own .com. Someone who typed the password stays in on that browser for 14 days, so they don't have to type it on every visit.

It is one password for the whole site, shared by everyone you send it to. There are no separate passwords or accounts per visitor.

Go live: make it public again

Ready for everyone? Open Update, empty the Password (optional) field and press Save, or ask your AI to remove the password. The site opens to everyone straight away, on the same link and the same domain.

What happens when you update

The password stays when you publish a new version with Update, when you change one file with Edit files, and when you press Restore. You don't have to set it again after each change.

Changing the password signs everyone out. People who had the old one need the new password on their next visit.

Questions

Does a password cost anything?

No. Setting or removing a password does not cost anything.

Does it work on my own domain?

Yes. It works on the free link and on your own domain.

Can my AI set the password?

Yes, once the site is claimed and your AI has your account token. It asks you for the password, then uses set_site_password. clear_site_password removes it.

Can I give different people different passwords?

No. There is one shared password for the whole site.

Do I have to set it again after an update?

No. The password stays after Update, Edit files and Restore.

How do I remove the password?

Open Update, empty the Password (optional) field and press Save. An empty password means the site is public.
